/NOVOSTIVL/ The Kremlin hopes that the US and EU will not go further "along the road of sanctions pressure" on Russia, it has already demonstrated its ineffectiveness, said Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the Russian President.

During a conversation with reporters on Friday, Peskov was asked to comment on press reports, in particular Bloomberg, that the United States and the EU are preparing to introduce new sanctions against Russia. In this regard, the question was asked whether new counter-sanctions from the Russian Federation should be expected.

“We do not yet know what sanctions Bloomberg and others actually wrote about. We still hope that a common sense of the situation will prevail among our interlocutors, and we will not go further down the road of this sanctions pressure, which in fact is already has repeatedly demonstrated its inefficiency, "said Peskov.

On the eve of the Bloomberg agency, citing sources, reported that the EU Foreign Affairs Council on February 22 could give the green light to the process of approving new sanctions against Russian officials.

In addition, the agency, citing an informed source, also announced the forthcoming report on new sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which will be presented to the US Congress on Friday.

According to them, the report will list only a small number of Russian companies that are likely to face sanctions.

At the same time, sources clarified that the United States is likely to refrain from sanctions against any German companies for the time being.
